PAPAVER orientale (aka- 'Oriental Poppy')

This is a perfect capture of this poppy bud just beginning to open. I would love to see a Poppy that large... 6" across.. And the brief life of this bloom is certainly a shame....as they are full of character in their paper petals and long stems..

You have chosen vivid colors in this composition. And it certainly was the initial impact for me to stop and take a look at this.. Personally I would back out of the saturation and vividness to find the detail that you have captured in the filaments of the seed pod. You have done a fine job with them.... but your brightness of light and color are over shadowing them.. Which is your choice and probably many others.. Excellent framing...black bg works perfectly... Beautiful!

Appreciate your honesty and suggestions Becky. I know we occasionally disagree on color. Has got to be the flashlight light that is bothering you here though....this is truly the color. As I mentioned in methods section I cropped and sharpened this- just a bit for both. There was no removal of anything and no uptick on saturation. I suppose I could remove some color but that's something I rarely do. My edit program, for one thing is not up to any sort of 'fine tuning' I'm afraid. As I said though I always read your suggestions very carefully and appreciate your honesty w/ this piece. Thank you for having a look.

Had my satellite adjusted today Becky so am really friggen hoping this completely random access to the internet is over with. Just saw this today and I must have misunderstood your original review?? I thought it was the color you thought was a bit too much?? no?? Not to worry though....I'm behind and you may have not even remembered this review it's taken me so long to respond.

Wow! what a spectacular photo with no or very minor alterations. So clear and detailed. Displayed in a beautiful light. Great contrast and dynamics! This is in your garden? It must be a wondrous place! Wonderful colors displayed within the bud of this oriental poppy. Very nicely accomplished!

Ya know, it is probably a good thing you live were you do. Why, you ask? I doubt there are any neighbors within visual range of "Deb's Gardens of Eye Candy".

If you did have a neighbor within eye sight Just imagine how freaked out they would be seeing you, with your camera and a flashlight out in the garden in the middle of the night taking pictures.

I have a bed of these marvelous plants in our gardens back in NC. Now when I look at this fantastic take I am mentally kicking myself for not thinking of this myself.

The black background provides contrast that is off the scale.

The colors of the soon to unfold blossom are striking and give this piece its punch.

The camera technique cannot get any better b/c all of the fine hairs of the pod are sharp and clear.

I am not sure why, but the word 'Robust" keeps popping up in my brain.

Deb this shot is really good ... OMP

"Deb's Gardens of Eye Candy". I absolutely LOVE that OMP! ....and you have figured me out. lol The closest neighbor is a little over a mile away so you are correct. I can traipse around my garden in the dark w/o freaking anyone out. Comanche adores it and the animals around here are, I'm sure, totally used to the crazy lady w/ the flashlights and camera who visits her flowers often after dark. ah it's a wonderful life, isn't it! The next time you are in NC- if the timing is right you'll have to do this. It is so cool to see that wonderful blossom simply unfold itself out of it's casing....and all those little hairs- even cooler. Anyway OMP you are just a doll for doing up such a wonderful review and I am flattered that you liked it enough to share a gold star w/ it. Thank you very very much.

Wow amazing detail here on this papaver bud, the light is perfect to highlight all the tiny hairs on the bud, nice saturated but natural colours,
Pin sharp focus and clarity, the bud really pops against the black back ground. An eye catching image, thanks for the interesting notes.

What a cool shot BB. Is this one the "World famous BB Flashlight Between the Knees" images? I bet it is. What a dramatic and eye capturing image BB. The colors are just 'knock your eyes out' rich. You must lead a charmed life BB because I had a six left to give this beauty. Damn you lucked out somehow ; )
