Congratulations on your win. This is truly a beautiful photograph. The patterns of the butterfly, enhanced by your creative ability. The spikes on the flower, contrasting with the petals of the blossom. The muted background brings the picture out.

So you raise these guys?? YOU are one interesting Lady! It's a really well presented piece. Focus is CRISP CRISP CRISP! Marvelous detail in both Butterfly and blossom as well as your little 'fly' Just excellent. Your use of selective color makes a really compelling image. It's well exposed and the up close and tight presentation gives us a wonderful look at all the players here.
Definitely deserved to win this contest. Good notes and title. Nicely done all the way around so my final gold star of the week goes to you and your lovely image here!

Wow,Deb many thanks for your fantastic review,your contest vote,and your extra star-you honor me more than I can say! I've been raising monarchs since I was a kid,and last year was the first time in 4 yrs.that I was able to find caterpillars and eggs.I ended up raising and releasing about 80,so I was able to enjoy photographing them again.Hoping this will be another good year!

Well deserved LeeAnn....excellent image here! I have never known anyone who 'raises' Monarchs. What a cool thing to do. You must have more images of the process, yes?? Sure hope so anyway.

What a great entry. I think the subject you chose is great and the thistle was a brilliant choice too with all the rich texture and visually attractive patterns that it adds to the image. The butterfly's colors look good. The fly on the thistle is a nice bonus!

Cool! Great to meet someone else who has raised monarchs-I released almost 80 this past summer after not finding eggs or caterpillars for at least 3 years.I actually stopped looking for eggs and caterpillars because I already had so many,plus I was also raising luna,polyphemus, cercropia,and cynthia moth caterpillars-bit off more than I could chew-lol! Hopefully both of us will be raising monarchs this year. Many thanks for your review and the extra star,I truly appreciate this honor! :)

This is a wonderful artistic rendering with beautiful subject in color, very clear view allowing nice detail throughout , the thistle is beautiful and adds a variety of texture , I especially like the top where you have sprinkled some color and the little bee in color too! This is well thought out , with great camera techs and very effective edits. I really enjoyed viewing !
