Cosmos is one of my favorite flowers. This is a very unusual one that I'll be on the look out for this Spring. Your picture is quite beautiful. Fills the frame so perfectly, along with good color, contrast, and clarity. Background, depth of field work well.

Like it a lot! Unique and natural, it has a beauty in the fact it's not perfectly shaped, I love real although perfect shapes can be set to look great there is just something outstanding about when it's natural and the shape is real!

Hi Deborah thanks for sharing this showy and amazing white cosmos that has earned its place in your garden. What a joyful bloom. Your photo is fantastic- it shows off the tubular shaping of the petals brilliantly along with that silky sheen that could almost resemble glitter on the surface of the petals. stunning and eye catching.. I can imagine how that would be rather luminous in the night sky.. Excellent focus and exposure and the clarity is brilliant .. Every formation of the tubular shaped petal differs slightly and gives the bloom a most unique appearance.. Love the angle used to capture the flower.. It shows off the individual shape of the fluted petals well. the centre of the bloom is striking and such a wonderful contrast to the bright white petals. The little pistols with the stamen bobbing out make a great display of colour and would be ever so attractive to the passing bees I am quite sure.
Love the background choice.. a wonderful contrast that makes the cosmos really pop.. the occasional splash of green foliage on both the right and left of the flower is a nice touch, bringing its own appeal to the scene. I notice a very light tinge of mauve/pink on some of the petals. A interesting addition to the otherwise white bloom. I totally agree with your notes about the addition of white flowers in the garden. I find they really add that fabulous contrast and compliment the green foliage and other flower tones beautifully. I add white around my garden also, for the same reason. Thanks for sharing another of your garden beauties Deborah. love the value of a cosmos in the garden setting.. great photo, with spot on lighting and beautifully balanced for good eye appeal. A total joy to review. cheers mel

Ah yes BB. It is always the neutral colors and things in life that bring out the beauty in all the other things. That perspective is what really makes the difference. Cosmos is a great compliment to the vivid colors which would otherwise overwhelm the senses. Great work as always BB.

Did I tell you I am going to stay here till the 19th in order to play in a poker tournament? If I did...PLEASE SEND MONEY! If you can't, just let me hear from you and tell me I will last more that 10 minutes in the tournament. I aint skeered (too much) ~ BB

COOL,Deb!
Hey,I usually avoid owning White colored automobiles too ( mostly due to an old semi localized superstition that says White vehicles are 'HooDoo Cars' and that they're nothin' but trouble! : ) )
but White ( whether in Flowers or on cards ) 'has it's place' and your photo of this white blossom in the dark looks Great,my friend!
Yep! A 'Good Show'! : )

I remember reading somewhere that white cars are the safest colored car you can drive Sean. Have you ever heard that?? Do appreciate you checking this guy out and love getting a 'Good Show' from you. Thank you so very much. You ready for our next Nor' easter? Damn huh!

This is a great look at this unusual cosmos flower with the tubular petals! The sharpness and detail are excellent. I love the subtle lavender color on the white petals. Best of luck in the contest!

Sorry about that! For some reason I was thinking you had entered this in the Flower Photos contest. It certainly is lovely enough to be entered in a contest!

Oh not to worry Barbara. I'm afraid I am not very good about entering contests. Gotta put more effort into it...lol

I have visited this post multiple times, each time with the intent to write a review of this beauty in the night in some witty or poetic/pathetic way. On each visit the words necessary to proclaim this flowers virtues escaped me - writers block? Or maybe this flower in particular has such beauty the right words won't be written for awhile.

So, I will simply tell you what I see.

I see a blossom that likes playing the role of chameleon. At once a shade of white seen now where else that mysteriously morphs into the most subtle hues of lavender, a color of innocence.

I see an uncommon fineness of detail in the porcelain like petals tenderly carved by an unseen presence.

I see a bright yellow center that contrast well with the ornate ring of petals.

I see a flower that has been brought dramatically into the spot light of truth and passed.

I see the hints of a background that in daylight compliments and supports the star, alas at night the spot light is all about the white porcelain beauty with a heart of pure gold.

I see an image that is so pleasing to the eye, that to gaze to long, to drink to long a draft from the well of its beauty risk tender peril to ones soul ... OMP

Oh you found the words OMP! Beautiful words as a matter of fact. I think my favorite may be "I see a flower that has been brought dramatically into the spot light of truth and passed." I love that. I so appreciate you putting the time into reviewing this piece....please don't ever think your reviews are anything but a pleasure to read....I am always so happy to find YOU at the end of a review. And thank you my friend for sharing one of your extra stars w/ this piece. You are just a dear.

Wow! Super nice shot of this cosmos flower. The petals are interesting in the way they are folded over and look like they are tubular. Each petal looks like a separate flower. Nice sharp, clear focus and full tonal range. Overall, this is a very pleasing photo to look at and view.
