We also have their cousins nest near my mum in Norfolk uk - the Little Tern. They seem to love basking in the sun at sunset quite often making for a difficult shot due to the contrasting colours of their feathers and the sunlight. This is a good balance of colour and detail. Nice shot.

Hi alaskapat thanks for sharing this delightful little feathered friend who has posed so beautifully for you and your camera.. The arctic tern is such a pretty and dainty little bird.. He colourings are striking.. with that tip of black sitting on his forehead.. in almost direct line of his reddish beak.. . his soft white feathery chest and upper back contrast vividly to his top hat.. looks as though his wing feathers have a tinge of yellow, which flares out into some of his tail feathers also. He is a real snow birdie... I am glad he has such a colourful beak and legs along with his black head... so he stands out in amongst the white snow flakes.. during winter.. . I bet he has a pretty song to sing also. He looks as though he would.. You have captured him at the perfect angle to show off his markings nicely.. the background tones of pastel hues compliment him well. bringing him out of the photo perfectly... He appears to be focused on something ahead.. as he stands so still for your camera shot.. Thanks for sharing this delightful tern. He has a happy emotion about him and has been a real joy to review. cheers mel

Love this shot of this interesting and unique bird. It looks like he is wearing a mask. The background colors are a beautiful mix of pinks, oranges and light yellows. They are also the colors in the bird's body and feathers. Overall, this is a very well framed and pleasing photo to look at.
