A superb shot Pat. The angle and backdrop really brings in my admiration in the scene construction. That apart the bird is perfectly captured with its fine colours subtly shown and detailing in the head and shoulders. Great use of light techniques.

How nice that the lovely woodpecker stayed long enough for you to capture his beauty, especially the yellow and whites. Your composition with bird, wood, and background is outstanding, artist friend.

OH My Goodness Pat! You were so lucky to capture this shot! Timing is everything and it was certainly with you on this day! Love the alert look and bright eyes of the bird! Love how you gave him plenty of room to look to the right! he dark blurred background gives us an amazing view of the bird, along with the great lighting and focus! Very Cool! Easily worth six stars in my book! :o) Nancy

It is a very pretty bird, and I especially like the way he is posing for you, and also how well you have captured his shiny eye. I also like the all blurred background, and how well the Woodpecker is standing out from it.

The photo is sharp showing such clear and well defined details in the feathers of the bird, and the exposure is perfect.

I like the way you have cropped the photo and the placement of the bird off to the left. Indeed a sweet and well taken photo Pat, and with an excellent DOF.

'Good Show',Pat!
That's a fine looking picture of this interesting little bird,my friend!
As a Paleontology enthusiast I can help but womder if woodpeckers inherited any hereditary material from their ancient and very distant
ancestors like the
( possibly ) head butting Pachycephalosaurids?
( Probably! : ) )
Im enjoying this beautifully presented image very much!

Pat, This is a well defined male woodpecker. The yellow marking on the front of the crown is a cool feature. You have done a wonderful job capturing his features. Just love your work. Ray
