A spectacular waterfall in Florida

With the golden colors of the water, these falls almost look unreal, but indeed impressive. I think especially the flow of water is well captured, and I also like your point of view.

The photo is sharp showing such clear and well defined details, and the exposure and white balance is perfect

The format and tight framing has worked well, and I think it is a fine flow and balance in the composition. I think this is a truly great looking and well taken photo Allan, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thanks Annie for the super review and high rating. Of the two waterfall images I posted I prefer this one also. It shows in detail what the eye cannot pick up, the incredible detail of falling water. I previously posted an image from this area that was zoomed in with even more incredible detail. A fun and unexpected subject to shoot that day. Thanks again!

With its highest elevation at 345 ft it's hard to imagine waterfalls in Florida,... Just kidding Allan.

Your right about tannic acid being the source of the earth tone coloration. This ones got all the brown through red earth tones - must have been mesmerizing.

I would love to see this same shot with a 1 to 2 second exposure. The long shutter release would make the waterfall look dream like. Well done with this fine take... Bob

Hi Bob, indeed Florida is a tough place for
seeing waterfalls. It is hard to give scale to this shot. The waterfall is about 20 feet wide and 4 feet high.

I did take a long shutter image of this same vantage. I will post tomorrow so you can see which one you like better.

Not going to lie, I thought this was soda or sweet tea. This is a fascinating photograph you got of this waterfall. This is the first time I seen this color in a waterfall. I like it, I think it is really cool! Overall excellent presentation, thank you for sharing

First thing is you would think of pollution as its a big issue in the uk at the moment, that aside it is a good shot of this waterfall and shows the power of nature as such good exposure and info...Brian

Thanks Brian, glad you like this image. If polluted, this would be a terrible shot, but tanic acid = OK

Hi Allan, what an amazing shot! I've never seen a waterfall with those colours, they're glorious, I can totally understand you not wanting to leave!
Very good shot too, I like that you've frozen the moving water in time by using a fast shutter speed - as lovely as some of those silky, slow shutter speed waters can be, they've become a bit too over-used, a great pleasure to see this one!
Very good luck in the contest.

HI Charlotte, I am glad you liked the freeze motion shot rather than the typical milky shot. That was my intent to see the detail in water we often miss. My shutter speed was 1/2,000 and the ISO was 3200, fstop 4.5. Fortunately my camera can handle the high ISO with minimal noise. I did shoot several milky shots on site also but they did not look as good as this one, at least in my opinion. Thanks for your review!

You're very welcome Allan. Yes, when the milky shots first started showing up, I was very taken with them, but I do feel that they've now been so over-done that a freeze motion shot has almost become unusual! So hat off to you for your individualism and keep up the good work! And I'm sure you made the right choice, this is a great shot.

Alan,
this reminds me of the weir on the river dodder after a lot of rain up in the Dublin mountains when they release water from the reservoir that is fed by streams passing through the Peat bogs that make colour the water brown that almost matches the colour of strong tea without added milk. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.
Good luck in the contest.
Susan

Thanks Susan, mostly I shoot waterfalls with a slow shutter speed to get a milky look. This one I shot at a shutter speed of 1/2,000 and and ISO of 3200. It is amazing the detail you can see in water falling of a cliff. Thanks again!

A good looking nature image presented here together with interesting scientific notes. Your fine, full and appropriate composition offers us a very enjoyable view of that dramatic waterfall. Colours, textures and tones are good. Nicely done!

Wow that is amazing and can understand why you wanted to stay longer. The colors are so unique as the rush of water falls and you pov allows us to see the flow and color perfectly.
Lighting is great and the focus and dof are good.
