INFORMATION
I have loved taking pictures since I was 10 years old and had a tiny 'mini-camera' from Germany that was about the size of a Kennedy half-dollar.
Now my daughters and family are located all over the world, so pictures have come to be extremely important to me in order to keep me surrounded by those loves of my life. Of course capturing nature at its special moments and the beauty it offers to us, is also a love of mine.

At the end of 2011, my life took various intense turns, some good and some not so good, and the hundreds of pictures of my precious grandsons are what keep me going.
Now that I am unemployed after working as a European IT Manager/Global IT Co-Ordinator, so it seems the right time to share some of the pictures I have taken over the past years. My daughter gave me my first digital camera three years ago, so you will see some of the photos I have taken since then and which I believe are noteworthy.
Hope you find them as 'special' as I do. :o)

fotofriend: Many of you may have read my entry of April 2nd. I was heading out on a venture to be healed of inside hurts & turmoil that eventually lead to outside illnesses. After seven weeks, I finally felt I had faced and conquered - and most of all accepted how to be me and remain the strong new me I have become.
Sooo, my photos may sometimes be off the wall and not what one would expect, but they reflect me and what I saw, how I felt, and who I am. I learn more each day - each time I snap a photo, from my various mentors, and from each review.
Anyway, I am back now and unfortunately returned with a torn meniscus which has me on crutches until I see the doctors as to what we should do next. That means I am stuck in a chair on the terrace taking pictures of the garden - which is also fun in its own right! It is good to be back in full swing - my heart is grateful to all who walked this long way with me and prayed for me.

Many thanks to those of you who wrote to me this past week. It has been different and often difficult, but since today is Easter Sunday, we have been given a reprieve and a day to do whatever we would like, so here I am on FAR with my family of artists! Once I have responded to your notes, reviewed some of your artwork which I have missed, and posted two new works of my own, I will be off again, and hope to be back in about another week. This time I would like to let you all know that I will be away for a while and will not have any internet access for at least two weeks. As I look at my profile picture, I see features of both of my daughters, and those two make my life worth living - while my grandsons give me the 'want to'! ;o)
In life we often have growing spurts, and I am about to go through one now. Being on this site and having learned from so many of you is an honor and a pleasure. Having met a very special friend is the crown on top of everything.
Tonight I will post two shots, which I have chosen because of the hope contained in the rainbow shot, and the true pure joy in the photo of my oldest grandson. I leave you with those two messages, and when I get back online, hopefully I will have new photos to reflect success, and an over coming spirit!

fotofriend: I have read many comments by many members about giving and receiving reviews, that I have finally decided to share some of my own thoughts.
When I first joined, I was shocked at some of the very negative and not at all helpful reviews which I received. Some of them didn't even make any sense and/or the reviewer didn't even bother to read my notes or my profile. What I honestly admire about this site, is how on the review page, it specifically states, "Do not defend your work". How true - we should never feel the need to defend our work. If someone doesn't understand it or like it, that is ok - just say "Thank you for your time" and continue doing what you do best.
I personally would never give someone a 3 or below, because if I don't like it to that extent, then I simply 'skip' and look at the next piece. If I give less than a 5, I explain what I felt could be improved, either in this shot, or for future reference. I have actually sent messages to Standard Members who have never posted but felt it okay to give 2 stars because the neck of a swan was brown in the photograph. Hello?!? Sometimes they even respond and excuse themselves - they just don't know better. And hve you ever wondered if the reviewer simply needs to adjust their laptop screen?? I must admit that when someone reviews my post and says it has a 'problem' - that bugs me. My post doesn't have a problem, you do. My post may be missing something, or be crooked, somewhat out of focus, or whatever, so simply advise what can be improved and how, and I will do what I can - and what I agree with. It still needs to be 'my' post, not yours. Also, if I describe a particular quality of my post, please don't tell me it isn't there. You may not see it, but it is there. Again, let me know what might be missing, and I will see if I can help you out, but please don't tell me it is all wrong.
Now those on this site who know me, know that I feel art is the extension of the artist - a feeling, a joy, an expression, and sometimes just a memory wanting to be shared. For me, we can try to interpret, and say what we like or didn't like, but there really shouldn't be rules in art. There can be guidelines, and I do believe we can sometimes help each other express ourselves better, but we do not have the place to say if it is right or wrong. Beauty remains in the eye of the beholder, and a photo is still worth a thousand words.

    cabobrian: I agree with your statement wholly. The work that I present has been done to my satisfaction and I am happy with it that is why it is posted. If when reviewing I come upon a piece I do not like or understand I will hit skip it is that simple. If you do not like someonne's work either provide constructive critisim or move on to another. Most of us in this community are here to, both, improve our own work and help each other not destroy a persons dreams.

    pzoette: I am so with you here. A good teacher suggests, not slams, and thus gets through. Someone who starts, sorry I'm going to dock you OR unfortunately tus or that is all I like. There is a way to be constructive another destructive. And if we try to achieve an effect, say then the review should start from that point. I don't read notes until I finish but before I write and I probably haven't stopped to look if I didn't see merit....from there I can write more clearly. And I like to review blind. Sometimes I find a work from someone new that way. If we didn't have something to express or want to get across why would we post?

    Rebecah: I am just starting out on here, only been since the first of March. I can see the problems you mention, so far I feel the reviews I have were pretty helpful. I have never had the ability to have a nice camera for a real push to my hobby untill Dec when I got the camera I have now. I have never had the income to start a site like this in the past either, this was the first month I could afford something that gave me any chance to sell photos, enter contests or evel try to learn how to comment on others, the fact that the feedback that I have recieved thus far is a benifit.

    heedamarie: Would like to thank you on writing your thoughts and many of our truths so eloquently, I have never given less then a four and a half and always explain myself, if I feel less than that I too will skip it. This site has been a social saving grace to me and realize I am just a green horne when it comes to photography. This site allows me to be artistic and have a social connection with people I would otherwise never have the privelege to interact with. I like Rebecah have very limited income and am socially isolated so thank you again for speaking your mind so well.

    Everyone is different and that is what makes photography so great...we can all give our creativity a shot in this world of photography.

    There is always going to be some that do not like ones work but that is life. We all have different tastes and views on things which makes it even more exciting.

fotofriend: I would like to say thank you to my Wise Mentor and to everybody who has given me advise, suggestions, and support since the very first day I joined and posted my initial not so good photograph. Having now earned my first All Time Best was amazing, and I am so happy that it was with a photo of my precious little grandbaby!
