Composition -Background
Background - Don't just concentrate on your subject, look at what's happening in the background, too. You can't usually exclude the background completely, of course, but you can control it. For this contest the lack of a distracting background will be as important as your subject or focal point. If the background adds interest then leave it in or use it, if it detracts or clutters your picture then you need to try shooting with a larger apeture to blur it out or change your angle for something more interesting and complementary. Voters will be asked to pay as much attention to the quality of your background as they will to the subject of the photograph.
You'll often find that changing your position is enough to replace a cluttered background with one that complements your subject nicely. Or you can use a wide lens aperture and a longer focal length to throw the background out of focus. It all depends on whether the background is part of the story you're trying to tell with the photo.
This is one of those rules or guidelines that almost all beginning photographers break. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our subject that we don?t pay any attention to what's going on behind them.
Edits are allowed but no mixed media to change the background.
Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Saturday, May 9, 2015.
