It is not hard to understand how this tiny flower got its name. It has several other names but none described the flower better.
The Half Flower [Scaevola sericea] also known as Sea Lettuce, Beach Naupaka, Aupaka and Huahekili is a Hawaiian native found throught the Pacific and Indian Ocean Islands but also found as many Hawaiian plants indigenous to the Caribbean coast of Mexico.
The flowers grow in clusters on the ends of the stems and have a nice fragrance. Wile the single flower is only about a half of an inch the bushes could get to 10 feet tall in protected places but in on or windy beaches are usually not taller than 3 feet. A single bush could cover about 15 feet but they are smaller most the time, do to wind and waves.
