I'm sure you're wondering where the river is? LOL
If you want to see this river you're in for a LOT of walking! THe staircases are endless down to the river. You begin to wonder if there even is one. The river flows through a deep chasm and one is surrounded by tall rock walls.
I think it was discovered about 200 years ago when two brothers were going fishing. One of them actutally fell into it, not even aware it was there. Lucky for him he fell into a pool of water and wasn't hurt. You actually hear more water than you see, but it's very interesting down there. Trees are rooted on rocks and there is moss everywhere. You're not allowed to step off the boardwalks, but the view around you is amazing. It roughly takes an hour to walk through. It's definitely worth it but with all those stairs your legs really feel it.
They even have caves to go through if you don't mind squeezing or crawling through them. I skipped that part. I did want to see the cave with the underground waterfall, but it was flooded. DARN! LOst River can really wear you out! The rivers located in Franconia Notch in the White Mountains of N.H. Once you climb down you also must climb up. THe staircases wind through a wondrous world if you dare... to do the walking.
Hope you enjoy the view and get an idea of their staircase system. Hope to post more pictures of this fasinating place.
