In Greek mythology Andromeda was an Ethiopian princess who was chained to a rock as sacrifice to mute the rage of Cetus, a sea monster ravaging the coast of Ethiopia. She was rescued by Perseus, who married her after the slaying of Cetus. After her death Andromeda was placed by Athena among the stars of the northern sky. The constellation, named after her, is listed by Ptolemy in the 2nd century and remains among the modern constellations it is only seen in the Northern Hemisphere to 40 degrees south.

Two photos were used for the collage. The girl is a friend of mine in her Halloween costume. She was placed on dark background and overlaid with the stars. The stars were crafted from a daylight picture of the ocean from starlight reflections of the rising sun on the water. Those stars were isolated and laid to one side of Andromeda. A copy of the stars were flipped horizontally and merged as a third layer on the other side of Andromeda. Color and light were adjusted accordingly to match the story.
