In 1968 at the Olympics games in Mexico City, Tommie Smith and John Carlos both winning gold and bronze in the 200 meter sprint stood on the podium barefoot and raising their glove fist in protest for civil unrest in united states. The following day the Olympic committee kicked them both out of the games and not honored their awards. I was angered then thinking of what the Olympic committee did the native American Indian Joe Thorpe(all american athelte) some years before because after he won many gold medals it was all taken away because he went professional football...i Don't think I watched anymore Olympics until the 90's. These 2 men who EARNED THEIR MEDALS was never given back to them. My favorite time in history? When I hear people today say that things haven't change and it still like it is...make me wish I had a time machine to take them back to reality..THINGS ARE BETTER THAN IT WAS THEN. This work is tribute to Tommie Smith and John Carlos, the true American heroes of their time.
