This is a Great blue heron. I live close to this public fishing lake and I go there every day and look for these guys. I feel fortunate to find them setting on this old stump. I will park my car and walk to where he is. Sometimes they will fly before I get close to him but most of the time they stay put. I know then all I have to do is wait. Sometimes that is a long wait because they are looking for a fish to swim by. I had waited about thirty minutes and he did not want to wait anymore so he spread his wings and flew away. I was ready for him this time as I snapped the shutter just as he was lifting off. I am using an Olympus E3 camera ISO 400 with a 70-300mm lens 1000/sec f11
