These are red ants herding and protecting their little aphid herd. Aphids secrete a sweet liquid that the ants LOVE! When they find a group of aphids they literally protect them from inscet predators like lady bug larva which eat them. They treat the aphids like cows and will even take them to new pastures. The aphids in this group are black,green and orange. I don't know why there are color differences in this group.I felt really lucky to capture this group.Hand held shot! Hope you enjoy!
