i remember him when he 1st appeared in the late 70"s on the disco scene..this young skinny lil 17 yr old producing his very 1st album..really at 17 he did control the whole thing. production, edit and performing). pruple rain will always be the classic. this art is to tribute that one. Since we lost this rock/pop legend today i had to blow off the dust on this one i did in tribute to him and bring it out. to the newbies this would who have been following my cartoons for the making of music videos this would seem different. truth is if u ask any of the old timers here on this site they would tell u of a large collection of tributes i did to rock and pops legends(more of this art can be viewed on the music video "sharpie/bic rock art" on my profile page, or mklfood.artspan.com or Youtube) why did i stop doing them? got tired of this work to be considered a cartoon..lets face it..it seems im mainly recognized as a cartoonist and illustrator..since i dont work artist materials(sharpie and bic pens r considered as a office material) im really not considered to be an artist. hey im cool with that cause i have always been a promoter and i know for a fact that i am the master of sharpie and bic pens. someone asked me what i do draw?" i smiled at them and say only one word.."everything!". i have accepted that ill never be acknowledge by the diamond committee here on FAR..they want to submit 10 of the same topic drawings of the same this..i guess they are looking for artist have ADD. Personally i think they r crazy as hell and dont have a clue what they want.( do yall ever see them list any credentials of what made them qualified to be on the committee?) guess that is one the who know buddy system on that..wink wink. prince was always out the box fella in the music world..i can relate..he will be missed but his music will always live on.
