Let me tell ya bout the birds and the bees
And the flowers and the trees
And the moon up above
And a thing called Love
The Birds and the Trees, is a song reminiscing the 1950 Honky-Tong style. A single by Jewel Atkins was released in 1964. The Song got an international hit in 1965 and was recorded by different singers since, including Dean Martin [lyrics above]. The history of the song is a bit hazy. It is said that the song was written by the twelve year old son of Herb Newman or Herb Newman himself. The Lyrics are based on the metaphorical story of unknown origin, which is often told to children in order to explain sex and pregnancy.
