teaching near Naples, I got off the bus to get to work in time for lessons, to be greeted by something I had never seen before- the pavement was scattered with sleeping dogs- no one shu-d them away, they slept peacefully and people walked round, on the road sometimes, not to disturb them, and the dogs had no fear, relaxed as they dozed in the morning sun.. I have worked in many places, but nowhere have I seen such a comfortable relationship between man and dog..
