I was out taking shots when I came across some pretty flowers. When I went over to investigate I discovered this glodenrod spider on one of the petals with his prey. Goldenrod spiders do not spin a web to catch their prey, they just wait motionless with front legs open wide in catch mode. When an unsuspecting insect comes close they grab it and sink in their poisionous fangs.
Goldenrod spiders can camoflauge themselves by turning the color of the flower they are on. I have seen them as yellow, brown and this color. It was strange to see this one as white on a purple flower petal, it kind of stuck out like a sore thumb.

THe spider was very co-operative while I took my pictures. It didn't budge an inch! The camera was hand-held about five inches away.

I hope you enjoy the shot!
Thank you So much for stopping by!
