When my daughter lived in New Zealand she and her husband rescued Kohi - he had been kept chained up with an electric collar on to stop him barking. He was very timid when they first got him - I used to go out to stay with them for several months at a time - but gradually gained confidence. He never totally got over some issues - he didn't like the noise of cutlery being washed up or the lawnmower but he was a lovely dog. Unfortunately he passed away when he was only six years old.
