Arizona is blessed with many wonders of nature; the impressive Saguaro cactus is just one of the wonders in the Arizona dessert.
Saguaro [Carnegiea gigantea] is a native plant in Arizona; it grows in small parts of California, the Baja California and in the Mexican state Sonora. The Saguaro blossom is the state flower of Arizona. The cactus gets to 50 feet tall. It grows only from seeds; never from cuttings. The cactus soaks up water whenever it rains and will visibly expand after a good rain. It stores the rainwater and consumes it slowly. Native birds, as the threatened Mexican owl will build their nest in holes inside the Saguaros.
