Elephants!! Contest Entry
You can own this. Offers accepted. Information
Ganesha, The Elephant God, also known as Ganapati and Vinayaka, is one of the best-known and most worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon. His image is found throughout India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.[ Hindu sects worship him regardless of affiliations Devotion to Ganesha is widely diffused and extends to Jains and Buddhists.
Although he is known by many attributes, Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify.Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom. As the God of beginnings, he is honoured at the start of rituals and ceremonies. Ganesha is also invoked as patron of letters and learning during writing sessions. Several texts relate mythological anecdotes associated with his birth and exploits and explain his distinct iconography.
The Ganesha, The Elepahnt God, you see here is one of my collections from among the thousand ways of depicting the loveable God ,right from his childhood to an adult. He is the son of Lord Shiva and His consort Parvat,
This is replica of an ancient sculpture showing Ganesha in a musical mood playing the ?Tabla? a classical percussion instrument, similar to Bongos, but with a huge variety of sounds and playing methods with fingers and palm,
This of course is made from Brass and given an antique look. I have a number of ganeshas and elephant figures, but I thought that this was best suited for the contest. I wanted it to be an ?out of the box? entry!
Camera: Sx130IS, hand held, natural light, standard settings. Image cropped and re-sized to FAR requirements. Did slight adjustments to brightness and contrast to make the figure pop out.
Actually Ganesha is sitting on my sofa. I thought that the design of the fabric gave the picture a unique look.
Enjoy!
