This is a single stem of the CROSMIA plant. It's aka name is 'The Devil's Tongue' and this particular variety is called 'Lucifer' ...it has abundantly eye-catching, brilliantly red, tubular flowers atop bold, slightly arching, 3' tall stems w/ wonderful sword-like leaves.

Crocosmia comes from the Greek words "kroskos" for saffron and "osme" for scent... named so because when the flower is dried and steeped in water it develops the scent of saffron.

This bright red Lucifer is one of the most popular CROSMIA... it is ridiculously easy to grow, hardy and long-lasting. It is pest and disease-free....and as a bonus, it attracts mobs of hummingbirds and bumble-bees. Easily one of my favorites. I have five different beds...it adds a real pop of color all around my garden beds.

Post Type: Photography
Mixed Media: Minor | Photo cropped....a bumble bee photo-bombed this flower exactly when I was taking it. Almost included him....but he was pretty fuzzy. Also- red is the most difficult color for me to photograph. Added a frame. Cleaned up where I cloned out the bumble bee.
