I came to England early fifties, my parents were brought to work in the forties- senior school turned out to be hard going, a lot of war time memories persisted. Because I was in a bavarian children's home just before I came to England I was a Nazi, a Jerry pot, a dachshund etc, it was not imaginable to our hosts that we had 'travelled' West. However, I also made friends. What is interesting, as I had to learn English I started at the bottom level and worked my way to the top class, year by year. Friends were all in the lower level classes, including my dearest friend, the niece of Kinnock shadow Minister and all the Welsh and Scottish girls.
