This picture was taken this May in Machane Yehuda - the outdoor shuk (market) in Jerusalem. During the day it is a hustling, bustling center of activity where you can buy almost anything. At night the market used to be dead. But recently there are restaurants and street musicians that have turned the place into a hotbed of nightlife. Two brothers (new immigrants to Israel) started to paint the store grates to give the market some color at night and to cover up the ugly looking store grates. The pictures range from birds, to fish, to food, to religious figures, to political personalities. This is just one of the many shots I took during the day on Israel Independence Day when many of the businesses are closed. Enjoy and let your imagination take flight.
