I started with a blank canvas which I tinted black and a second canvas tinted green. I applied a gradual-transparency filter to the green canvas, then placed it on top of the black and reduced its size. I repeated this process finishing with a small green square in the center. I used an axis to warrant the symmetry. The squares were created in 8 layers. Separately I created a green circle and repeated the line of work I used to create the squares. The circle was created in seven layers. I multiplied the circle x4 and layered them onto the axis. Finally, I deleted the axis and converted to jpeg. The sum of layers is 36 [8 for the squares, 28 for the circles]
