Christmas Art Contest Entry
Here's an image I created to summarize this very unusual year's events which for some has been quite a nightmare before christmas. You may spot the references to Brexit (see the EU stars), Trump (see the moon), Russia (see the bauble of the large elf hat) and France (on the clock tower - there's a hidden message in the numbers on the clock face). I also penned this hopeful poem to accompany this:
Hello dear darkness, my old friend.
Your company I have come to keep.
To prate a while whilst bashful sleep
Upon me forbears to descend.
Despairing echoes throng the air;
My ears are clogged with the agog
Moon-worship of a demagogue
Who foments my waking nightmare.
But o'er the din, I hear them peal;
The bells of Christmas ringing in
The holy day. Will they my sin
Ring out? Will they my fractures heal?
I do not know what tomorrow
Will bring but ring, happy bells, ring!
Ring as you did when Christ the King
Was born that night with Hope in tow.
