The Bluebonnet [Lupinus perennis] also known as Texas Bluebonnet, was adopted by Texas in 1901 as state flower. The state flower status was extended to all Lupinus flowers in 1971.
The plant grows15-24 inches tall, blooming at the upper 2-6 inches from March through May. All Bluebonnet species are host and food plants for bees as and butterflies.
