A National 3,000 ft high monument El Capitain is protected by Federal lands and surrounding the areas of Yosemite in California. A bill signed by President Abe Lincoln in 1857 created a trust to protect this beauty so future generations can care for, learn and enjoy this beauty. Folklore and history has a tale that if you look at this side of the mountain you can see the side of a old womans face and tears. It has been said the Ahwahnee Indians that lived here before settlers that this is one of the Chiefs daughters. The story goes...2 young lovers wanted to marry. War broke out and the young Indian maidens to be husband went to war and never returned. As the years passed she became old. Never marrying. Her love never returned. Her heart broken, her face aged and wrinkled from looking off the top of this mountain in the hot sun. She took a Leap of Faith and Lost Love. She jumped off the side of El Capitain. 3,000 feet to a broken loves death. FOREVER her face and tears are stained in the rock of El Capitain. Can you see her? It is said if you can, that YOU HAVE A HEART FULL OF LOVE. ~
