with no parents to prod and fill out my memory, I could only work on the snatches I had. I mainly remember the cold. Not hunger, cold. Endless freezing cold. This was when they moved us to the second children's home in the village, I remember three nuns coming down to the train to meet us, though I was quite young and we had moved and moved and moved, the memory of them, standing in the snow is clear, a GI near by also remains clear in my mind, because he looked so well fed actually, and a German, back bent sweeping the station of snow.
