Our lives were very harrowed, but one finds odd moments, this was one, and there were many there in Bavaria as a little kid, in the summer we would sit outside the children's home shelling peas etc, the crickets used to chirp, the bigger girls used to chat, the kitchen nun -whom I loved to death- would come out every so often to take a basket in, but never a cross word. If only the world could have stayed like that..
