This is an old French breed of draft horse. Pronounced com-twa.
They are thought to have evolved from horses brought by the Germanic Burgundian tribe to France during the 4th century. They were bred to pull heavy loads and for working on farms. In the 1500s, this breed was used to pull artillery and carry soldiers. Napoleon used the Comtois as a war horse.
