In Mexico the Family is the strongest bond in society. Along the Malicon (boardwalk) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, every Sunday there is a competition in free stone stacking. Sunday is a traditional Family day in Mexico where parents and children go out to spend time together and view all the entertainment that is happening. In this case, at the boardwalk in Puerto Vallarta, the children are asked to pick their favorite statues made from rocks. Boulders found on the beaches are stacked one upon the other to create free standing sculptures. It takes skill to choose which rocks will balance on each other and even greater skill and patience to place each stone upon the other so that all stay precariously balanced. There is even a children's section where they attempt to stack small stones on each other. I saw these two and they reminded me of human sculptures. I waited until sunset to give these wonderful works of art a different look and feel. I hope you can appreciate and enjoy the artistry of these free standing stones.
