Fireweed grows all over Alaska and will fill large sections giving the vibrant pink color to our landscapes. Fireweed is edible and used to make jelly and honey. In the fall , the leaves will turn a vivid red color, I suspect that is how it got its name. This was in our campground in Anchor Point. When the fireweed blooms at the very top of the spike, that signals that summer is over.
