The Golden-fronted Woodpecker is native to The US state of Texas, Mexico and Honduras. There are 11 subspecies who differ in the appearance of the color patches.
The species located in Texas has yellow nasal tuffs, a golden yellow-orange nape and hind neck. Some females leak the nape. Juveniles have duller colors and leak the tuffs and nape.
