I painted the white swan from an original photograph I took at a harbour in Germany. The swan was swimming with a partner and had just had a bit of discussion, following their excited conflab they calmly started swimming together. This gave me the idea of painting them as a Yin and Yang. The Yin = shadows, femininity, is in the trough of the wave. The Yang = brightness, passion and growth, is in the light swirl. Good or bad? Taoist concept is they balance between two opposites. Metaphysics, distinctions between good and bad, along with other dichotomies moral judgments are perceptual, not real, therefore duality of yin- yang is an invisible whole. Ref.
