This is a sculpture created by renowned Polish-born sculptor Igor Mitoraj.
The sculpture is of Eros, the Greek God of love, bandaged and marred by cracks which is intended to point out the inherent fragility of the human condition and the contrast between the ideals of beauty and strength.
The sculpture is twelve feet long, seven feet tall and weighs about 4,000 pounds in spite of being hollow. The giant size is said to represent the glories and failure of entire civilizations. The sculpture sits outside of the Minneapolis Institute of Art which has been open for 104 years. Eros was acquired on the 100th anniversary of the Museum.
