My friend Geoff is 84 and was a miner, a teacher then a mining engineer. He has travelled all over the world where mining in remote areas was his attraction, from gold and diamonds to raw minerals and in this case silver in Canada. The area is very remote and when he was interviewed and offered the management he said he would only take it if he could bring his wife. The owners told him there was no married accommodation but if he could build a house within a month before the snows came they would give him the space and materials and he could bring his wife. And he did it. It is one of his favourite stories.
He was overjoyed this week when he found a photo. It's very old and tattered but he asked me to paint him a picture of it. So here it is with a bit of my input too. He reckons it was so solid it will be still standing and he left it over 30 years ago. The mine is empty and all people gone, so he thinks. He said the structure was built around a large tree,, the trunk is in the centre and the upstairs floor boarding goes through or rests on its branches.
