Seafood on a Plate Contest Entry
The saying goes that you haven't been to Mumbai till you've tried Bombay Duck or Bombil ! This charmingly misnamed delicacy is actually a fish :) It is an iconic fish very popular in the coastal areas! The wobbly, delicate fish is almost synonymous to the city's culinaryscape and consuming it is a must-do on a list of things to eat when in Mumbai
Bombay Duck, or Bombil as it is called locally, is one of Mumbai's polarizing culinary experiences. ... It got its name in the days of the British Rule, from being transported on an iconic train, the 'Bombay Daak', daak being the Hindi word for mail. The term was then bastardized to duck, which stuck.
Note how it is served in a typical local fashion... on a Banana leaf to get the right flavour!
