Man Impacted Landscape - Art Contest Entry
Springtime Sheffield which stands on seven hills like Rome and has some very exceptional views of the dips from its hills. I really notice them, as I spent most of my life in Lincolnshire, which is practically totally flat and you can see fields for miles and miles in the distance with barely a tree to be seen on the horizon, whereas Sheffield is reputed to have a tree for each member of the population, that is a million, the lungs of the city! The seven hills are: uphill of Hillsborough. Stannington, Redmires Road: to city centre.Ringinglow Road: to Ecclesall-Derbyshire Lane:City Road: Park, Manor. new housing
I lived on four of these and have been up and through the rest by bus and travel through another one by tram to my son, who lives on the outskirts.I have lived in the dips, but my sons know them all. Some years ago my favourite pass time was to catch the bus by my house and go to the terminus, one went far outside of the city round the villages, and another high up on a hill with many flats built on top of the hill! Just to sit and draw. When I taught at Barnsley College, nearby, I always caught a bus instead of train, as I enjoyed the bus ride so much. I don't drive or have a car, so it is a wonderful experience for me, especially if I can get the seat upstairs at the front. When I came home, I felt as though I had been on a trip!
