Man Impacted Landscape - Art Contest Entry
This is a house that was lived in every day by our friend Mario. It was on a headland into a lagoon. On this island, when I first arrived here, there were many primitive dwellings. Many now disappeared or bulldozed away by authorities that were 'enhancing' this natural island for tourism..... Under the banner of safety or non permission to build. The island is not rich. Mostly fishermen or clam and oyster farm workers. Mario was moved and rehoused but not long after had a heart attack. Then a year later another from which he didnt survive.
We were living on the lagoon and I did many plein air paintings, sitting in the sunshine under shade. These paintings are treasures now as many show the island how it was. Data here approx 2010/15 . This was one of my first when I started to paint after retirement.
