The Blue Jay [Cyanocitta cristata] Is a Passerine bird native to Eastern North America [Eastern and Central US, Canada sand Newfoundland.
Males and females are similar in size and plumage. The bird measures 22-30 cm [9-12 in] from bill to tail and weights 70-100 g [2.5-3.5 oz]. The plumage does not vary through the year. The color is predominantly blue with white chest and underparts, a blue crest with a black border and a U-shaped black collar around its neck.
Blue Jays in the wild live in Deciduous and Coniferous Forests , but are common in Residential areas, gardens, and parks.
The bird feeds on nuts and seeds, fruits, arthropods and occasionally on insects, small vertebrates, and eggs of other birds.
