I have named him Larry. I swear it's the same locust who comes every year and lands in my flower pots, usually near the door and seems to watch me. This year he landed in my hair and I almost freaked out. He then landed on a twig. I took several photos. He stayed there for ages. I did this piece as part of my camaflarge insects series. I think he is no larger than my midfle finger. This piece takes into account the macro imagery of the twig and wall also. I tried for realistic rather than impessionism. Locusts are a group of certain species of short-horned grasshoppers in the family Acrididae that have a swarming phase. These insects are usually solitary, but under certain circumstances they become more abundant and change their behaviour and habits, becoming gregarious. Wikipedia
