Independence Gold mine is located in the Talkeetna Mountains, in Hatcher Pass, it is located just north of Palmer. The elevation of the mine which is now shut down and a historical park is at 3465 feet. Autumn comes early up n the mountains, this was in August , this is my favorite time to visit this area because of the colors! This is one of my favorite views , this building still appears to be in good condition considering it hasn?t been used since 1951 after mining nearly 6 million dollars worth of gold.
