Cathedral Art Group Sheffield. We read the Ascension of Jesus-then in the remaining time, as the group is only a couple of hours, sadly, we all did a quick sketch of what we thought represented the Ascension-
After 40 days, Jesus left this Earth as recorded in Mark 16:19: "So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God." After his ascension, the disciples faced many challenges and questions about their responsibilities. They followed the path left by Jesus.
Then just before His Ascension into heaven, the Lord repeated the call: "Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8).
The Gospel of Luke states that 40 days after his resurrection, Jesus told his disciples that they must stay in Jerusalem and that they would receive the power of the Holy Spirit . Then, Jesus was taken up into a cloud. Two men in white appeared and told the disciples that Jesus had gone to Heaven. Christ is accompanied on his ascent by two angels who, according to the New Testament Book of Acts, promise that: 'This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into Heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into Heaven.
I went to a Church School /in Scunthorpe Lincs/I remember that phrase- and he was taken up to heaven and sat at the right hand of God.. like my own name. It worked suitably with my imagination though some was difficult!
