The Pomegranate [Punica granatum is a fruit bearing deciduous shrub in the family Lythraceae, native to the Mediterranean. Spanish merchants introduced it to Latin America in the 16th century. Spanish Settlers brought the shrub to California in 1769. Pioneers introduced the shrub to the US. Pomegranates are widely cultivated at the Caucasus region, North Africa, India, and Ventral Asia. The shrub goes 5-10 m [16-33 ft] tall.
