I had the very rare treat of visiting a family of Mountain Gorillas in the Virunga Volcanoes, Rwanda. They are classified as an endangered species as there are only 1,063 Mountain Gorillas left in the wild (according to the WWF). After a very arduous trek up the volcano, we were allowed just one hour viewing a family of these rare and beautiful creatures but were forbidden to get closer than 22 feet from them - although the gorillas didn't appear to be aware of this rule and did get a lot closer than that to us, one female actually ran right across my feet as I stood photographing them! I can honestly say that it was the most amazing and memorable experience of my life - I've never know one hour to pass so quickly!
