I don't see Snapping Turtles often and didn't think at all that I had seen one last year, but when I went back to pictures, I took in 2022 I found this one. As I was walking on the dike at one of my favorite spots, I saw what I thought was a turtle dive under the water. The turtle only went about 5 ft. then stuck his head up. If I hadn't seen that happen, I would have thought what you see here was a tree stump. This image shows the head and part of the neck of a big Snapping Turtle above water. He is looking to the right and seems to be looking right at me. I actually think you can see a reflection of me in his eye. I was wearing a bright blue fleece jacket.
