A black legged Kittiwake protecting her two chicks from predator's by nesting on a very narrow ridge on a sheer rockface on the Farne islands in Northumberland, UK. In 2017 Kittiwakes became the 9th bird to be added to the red list for UK birds facing the risk of global extinction, with numbers on some Scottish islands recorded as down by 90% since 2000! Mostly due to the industrial sand eel fisheries vastly reducing their main source of food, and the rising sea temperatures from climate change which is also threatening the sand eel.
