Vader was 4 1/2 yers old, I had known him most of his life, and possibly even have photos of him as a fawn.Often seeing and photographing him daily, in various weather conditions, I became an accepted part of his life,and he became a big part of mine, I became emotionally vested in his wellbeing, and hunting season was a stressful time for me. Each year his rack became bigger, making him irresistible to hunters. Although I could get within 8 feet of Vader, follow him around, have him be comfortable enough in my presence to lay down and doze off, he was in no way *tame*; deer are smart, they learn who they can trust and know where they are safe.Unfortunately, during breeding season, bucks become obsessed with chasing does and throw caution to the wind and aren?t nearly as wary as they normally are the rest of the year. This is one of the last photos I got to take of Vader on November 16, 2023, a few hours before he would be shot and killed in the woods behind a neighbor?s house across the road. I miss him more than anyone can possibly imagine. Adjusted sharpness and brightness.
