Kumbh Mela, or Kumbha Mela is a major pilgrimage and festival in Hinduism. On February 4, 2019, Kumbh Mela witnessed the largest public gathering.
It is celebrated in a cycle of approximately 12 years to celebrate every revolution the planet Jupiter completed, at four river-bank pilgrimage sites on the Ganges.
A ceremonial dip in the water serves as the festival's defining feature, but it is also a celebration of local commerce with numerous fairs, educational opportunities, sermons by saints, large gatherings of monks, and entertainment.
The seekers believe that bathing in the holy river of the Ganges is a means to atonement, penance, and restorative action for past mistakes,[ and that it cleanses them of their sins.
For the record, I too took 3 dips in the river. It was freezing (10°C), but I wanted wash away my sins and make a fresh start.:):):)
I was one of the 250 million people who visited the river for the holy dip in 2019 in the city of Allahabad. Authorities were expecting 400 million people for that month-long festival.
